A very warm welcome to Mount House, a co-educational, independent senior school for 11-18-year olds in leafy Hadley Wood, Hertfordshire.
Successful schools are about the personal development of each child as an individual. This includes their academic qualifications, but just as important is development of the skills of leadership, teamwork and collaboration, resilience and self-awareness which will allow them to enjoy success, happiness and fulfilment in their adult lives. In a changing world, Mount House students find a sense of purpose, where they are supported and encouraged to have an open mind and immerse themselves in school life.
At Mount House, students combine endeavour with an enthusiastic engagement which extends well beyond the classroom. We are committed to providing the highest quality of education with breadth and balance for all. With a maximum capacity of 350 students, we are a small school with a significant sense of community. We encourage our students to aim high, to work hard to be the best they can be – whether it’s in the examination hall, on the sports field, or on the stage. Small classes and tutor groups where students will receive individual attention are critical to creating those opportunities, and this allows us to guide each student so that they, in turn, can contribute to the creation of a stimulating and supportive community.
Mount House is a place of learning, discovery, laughter and friendship – a place where students want to be. I consider it a great privilege to be able to lead a unique school which is able to offer such a wonderful educational experience.
Thank you for considering Mount House School for your son or daughter. I hope you will find our website useful and I look forward to welcoming you to our school.

NEW APPOINTMENT FOR SEPTEMBER 2025
The Board of Directors is delighted to announce that Mr Jon Cooper has been appointed as the next Head of Mount House School with effect from September 2025. Mr Cooper, currently Senior Deputy Head at Mount House, brings a passion for education and a wealth of experience to the role, and they are confident that under his leadership, Mount House will continue to grow and flourish.
Mr Cooper has an MA in Modern History from the University of St Andrews and is a Chartered Leader in Education. Recently Mr Cooper became an ISI Inspector and was made a Fellow of the prestigious Chartered College of Teaching. His previous teaching posts were at Redmaids’ High School in Bristol, and at The Portsmouth Grammar School in Hampshire.
Mr Ian Davies, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Mount House School, says, “Throughout the appointment process, and from his track record since he joined us at Mount House, Mr Cooper has proved to be an exceptional leader, teacher and person. Both visionary and pragmatic, he leads with empathy and an ability to bring people together. His time as a senior pastoral leader and leading the sixth form at Redmaids’ High School, and his experience of leading curriculum initiatives at Mount House have prepared him well for the rigours of headship”.
Mrs Richardson, the current Head says, “I will very much miss Mount House, which will always be a special place for me. Over the coming months I will be working hard to ensure the smoothest of transitions for Mr Cooper as the new Head, and the continued success of Mount House as a happy, nurturing and supportive school.”

Mr Cooper says, “I am honoured to have the opportunity to build on the outstanding work of Mrs Richardson and her many achievements at Mount House over the last five years. I look forward to leading this very unique school into the future, with the support of the excellent teaching body and the Board of Directors and with engagement from the students and their parents. We will continue to ensure that all our students reach their potential, both academically and personally, in this exciting new chapter of Mount House School.”
