There are so many opportunities to come together for music-making at Mount House, with a programme of regular performances. We place a great emphasis on music in the School and have a high uptake to our musical groups and work with them to develop those interests.
Singing is firmly embedded in the culture of the School. We have a School Choir performing a range of sacred and secular vocal music including 2- and 3-part arrangements of classical and pop songs. The choir is coached by our specialist singing teachers and by our Head of Music and rehearse once a week.
In addition to choir we have ‘Open Mic’ events which allow performers to build their confidence in a friendly and environment. Students select songs and are accompanied by guitar or piano and learn to use microphones for vocal performance.
Our instrumental music clubs offer opportunities for students at all stages of their musical development from beginners to experienced performers.
We bring together a range of ensembles including:
House Band – An ensemble of experienced musicians who play at a range of school events
‘The Phantoms’– An inclusive and fun guitar group playing a range of classic rock music.;
Brass group – Year 7 Brass programme. All Year 7 gain the opportunity to learn brass instruments and form a brass ensemble group.
Drum Corps – learn rudimental drumming from technical point of view using drum kit and snare drum to become versatile and skilled.
Concert programme
From year 7 we have a structured programme to introduce students to musical performance starting with opportunities to play their instruments or sing at a School assembly. Our music curriculum covers all styles and skills needed in music.
Our Spring Concert in April showcases soloists and group instrumental performances.
Our Christmas Concert in December is held in the local church, St Marys, and is a range of choral and instrumental performances of classic carols and more festive tunes.
Every year Mount House puts on an annual large-scale school musical production, which is the highlight of the year. ‘School of Rock’ musical was performed in Dec 2019 was a huge success as students relished the opportunity to perform and act to large audiences in a high-quality production.
